Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most tender and transformative moments—and capturing those first days through newborn photography is a beautiful way to remember just how small, snuggly, and sweet they once were.
If you’re planning your baby’s first portraits, you might be wondering:
What does a studio newborn session actually look like?
As a photographer specializing in newborn photography in Dothan, AL, my goal is to create a calm, meaningful experience that honors your baby’s first days and allows you, as a parent, to feel relaxed and supported.
Here’s what you can expect when you book a newborn session with me.

A Calm, Cozy Studio Designed for Newborns and Parents
My studio is thoughtfully styled and softly lit, with everything needed to keep baby comfortable and content. The space is warm and quiet, with gentle music and soft textures that help baby feel secure and sleepy.
I also provide a carefully curated client wardrobe for mamas, partners, and siblings—featuring soft, timeless pieces in flattering neutrals—so you don’t have to stress about what to wear or how you’ll look on camera. (Hint: You’ll look beautiful.)

A Baby-Led, Stress-Free Approach
Every session is paced around your baby’s needs—not a rigid schedule. We take breaks as needed for nursing, soothing, or changing, and I always follow baby’s cues to ensure they feel safe and settled throughout.
Your newborn’s comfort is the top priority, which is why I keep posing simple and natural. You’ll see soft swaddles, gentle stretches, and relaxed positions that highlight baby’s tiny features—without forcing anything that doesn’t feel right.

Thoughtful, Heartfelt Family Moments
While baby is the star of the session, I always include images of you with your little one—because these early moments of connection matter. I’ll gently guide you into relaxed, emotion-filled poses with your baby in your arms or resting close to your heart.
Whether it’s your first baby or you’re bringing along older siblings, the session is designed to feel easy and full of grace—no pressure, no perfection required.

Support & Preparation Every Step of the Way
Once your session is booked, you’ll receive my Newborn Session Guide—a private, comprehensive resource filled with tips on:
- How to prepare your baby and family for the session
- What to bring (and what not to worry about)
- How to make the most of your time in the studio
- Styling advice, comfort tips, and more
The guide is just one way I ensure you feel confident and cared for from the very beginning.

When to Book Your Session
I recommend booking your newborn session during your second or early third trimester. Sessions typically take place when baby is 7–14 days old, but I’m always happy to accommodate older newborns when needed. Once you reserve your due date, we’ll schedule your actual session once baby arrives.

Let’s Capture the Sweetest Beginning
Your newborn session should feel peaceful, memorable, and full of heart — and that’s exactly what I aim to create for each family who steps into my studio.
